Serving Broward County since 1985, LifeNet4Families provides food, health and wellness, and stability to those in need. The organization currently serves more than 126,000 meals and provides 32,000 food boxes annually to the chronically homeless, newly homeless, and food insecure.

Its main avenues of distribution are its Community Café, which provides hot meals each week, and Food Pantry, which distributes food to individuals and families monthly.

The Publix Super Markets Charities donation has been instrumental in supporting our mobile food pantry program, which provides essential food boxes to households in Broward County on a monthly basis,” said J.J. Myers, director of Development & Communications.

“This donation holds significant importance for the residents of Broward County because it plays a crucial role in expanding their meal options,” he said. “With a challenging economy and the rising costs of food, numerous families are struggling to make ends meet, and they rely on LifeNet4Families to help supplement their grocery budgets.”

LifeNet4Families’ work goes beyond providing food. It also provides

  • showers, clothing and toiletries to 200 people weekly;
  • haircuts to about 80 people a month;
  • physical and mental wellness activities, such as exercise and motivation;
  • case management and rental assistance, and;
  • postal services to more than 850 homeless people who collect 1,000 letters and packages monthly.

“Our work complements other organizations addressing issues of hunger and homelessness by offering daily essentials to individuals experiencing homelessness or living in their vehicles,” Myers said. “We provide access to showers, toiletry items, on-site meals, takeaway meals, and healthcare through our partnership with Broward Health.”

LifeNet4Families’ donations of food help people who are experiencing difficult circumstances.

“Some have recently lost their jobs or become homeless, while others face chronic homelessness. Our beneficiaries include families, seniors, women with children, and men who have exhausted all available options,” Myers said. “What unites them is that they are ordinary people who have felt the impact of poverty, which can happen to anyone due to reasons like chronic illness, medical bills, legal issues, or family problems. Fortunately, LifeNet4Families is just a phone call away.”

“The organization operates thanks to the generosity of donors, corporate partners, volunteers, and supporters,” Myers said. “We rely on the support of the entire community to continue providing the high-quality services we offer to our community members.”

LifeNet4Families is grateful to Publix and Publix Charities not only for their donations but for their volunteer efforts. Publix donates food—such as items close to their sell-by or expiration dates—to the agency.

“Their support enables us to reach and assist more community members in need. It also provides Publix employees with a firsthand opportunity to witness the challenges faced by some members of our community and the chance to make a positive impact through volunteering,” Myers said.

At its 2023 Annual Gala: Casino Royale, LifeNet4Families honored Publix and Publix Charities with its 2023 Community Service award.

“This recognition is reserved for individuals and organizations that have significantly contributed to advancing our mission and cause,” Myers said. “This year, it was only fitting to acknowledge both organizations for being a vital part of the solution to our community’s challenges of hunger and food insecurity.”
